The New Literacies Teacher Leader Institute has allowed the teaching practices of participants from across the globe transcend the classroom. While engaged in a project-based inquiry approach to new literacies, educators work with colleagues from other districts, states, and nations. These educators then transform the classroom by breaking down boundaries of space and time while aligning their curriculum to the literacy practices of today's youth.
Each of the showcase exemplars below highlight the benefits of the collaborative nature of the institute. Participants first began the institute by focusing on how new media could transform a unit they already teach. They then explored the goals of their peers until a team emerged. Each day they would discuss where they had been, what they learned, and where they needed to go. Participants then attended follow-up sessions throughout the year as they continued the implementation/reflection cycle.
